After over three years, Elon Musk announced that the Tesla referral program will be ending at the end of this month. Tesla first launched the program back in 2015 with the goal to encourage customers to promote Tesla’s vehicles.
Over the years, the program went into several iterations.
Initially Tesla was giving credit directly to new car buyers and owners who referred new sales. It later changed the incentives to prizes for those referring and free Tesla Supercharger access for new buyers.
Prizes for referrers included
- Launch Your Photo into Deep Space Orbit
- Signature Black Wall Connector
- Founder Series Tesla Model S for Kids
- 21” Arachnid Wheels for Model S or 22” Turbine Wheels for Model X
- Priority Access to Vehicle Software Updates
- Tesla Unveiling Invitation
Today Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced (via twitter) that the Tesla referral program is coming to an end and buyers have until the end of the month to use a referral code to get 6 months of free Supercharger access with their new purchase. If they don’t use it by then, they lose it.
The Tesla customer referral program will end on Feb 1. If you want to refer a friend to buy a Tesla & give them 6 months of free Supercharging, please do so before then.

The current tesla referral program was expected to run until March 11 but Musk’s tweet today announced that the program will end sooner due to the cost its adding to new cars, especially the Model 3.
So there you have it, if you have a code which you haven’t activated yet, not is the time to use it before you lose it.
